We are excited to invite Rosemary & Anne from Liverpool City Council & Liverpool 5G to join our host & founder Maria Lema to talk about transforming healthcare with 5G.

This event will be live streamed on YouTube on Friday 23rd July at Midday.*

5G networks could transform — and improve — all of the critical components of healthcare, a subject especially meaningful today as the spread of the coronavirus has put unprecedented stress on healthcare systems around the world.

5G promises to provide essential levels of connectivity to enable a new health ecosystem, one that can meet patient and provider needs accurately, efficiently, conveniently, cost-effectively and at substantial scale. However to realise the full potential of 5G networks in healthcare settings, network security and data privacy are paramount. Liverpool 5G have been doing some exciting work in this space and through use of 5G technology unlocked added value to the local citizens.

About Liverpool 5G

Liverpool 5G is a unique and innovative consortium of public sector health and social care suppliers, the NHS, university researchers, third sector organisations, agile local SMEs and a leading UK 5G technology vendor, who came together to deliver the DCMS-funded Liverpool 5G Testbed.

The Liverpool 5G Consortium deployed the largest 5G mmwave mesh network in Europe as part of the 5G Testbed. They work with local health, social care and technology organisations to reduce digital poverty for vulnerable people in need, providing safe, free and accessible connectivity to technology and services.

Special Guests: Ann Williams & Rosemary Kay

Ann Williams, Commissioning Manager of Adult Social Services at Liverpool City Council and Rosemary Kay, Project Director of the Liverpool 5G Testbed care deeply about Liverpool residents’ quality of life. They saw 5G as a key part of the solution to many peoples’ daily challenges.

Enabled by the city’s 222 5G nodes, Liverpool 5G provided four connected devices — a remote telehealth device, a push-to-talk device, a remote-pharmacy tool, and a tablet for social gaming — to vulnerable users as part of its trial.

By helping users connect with pharmacists, carers, and clinicians from the comfort of their own home, the system has so far seen a 50% reduction in mistakes in the taking of prescription medicines, and an initial saving of £300 per user in unused medicines.

Their initial testbed was not a standalone pilot, it was part of a gradual movement to introduce more technology into existing social care servicesThe consortium are now developing the network further, as part of the DCMS funded 5G Create programme. The group are introducing cellular capability and a further 9 use cases covering health, social care and education.

What topics we will cover in the discussion?

  • Role 5G plays in transforming Healthcare
  • AI applications and technologies that are innovating the health and social care space
  • Smart Cities and Edge Computing, how do we manage Data?
  • Accessing reliably and affordable connectivity infrastructure
  • Replicating the Liverpool 5G model across the UK and beyond
